WesFRESH Speaker Series

Caitlin C. Aylward ’13 writes in about WesFRESH’s fresh new speaker series:

This panel discussion on our current food system is a part of the WesFRESH speaker series in conjunction with Farm Hoe and sponsored by the COE.

This will be a discussion about the issues in our current food system, and in light of the upcoming farm bill, the barriers and possible solutions for rectifying these issues. I expect this panel to be a spontaneous panel discussion moderated by our faculty advisor, Prof. Fullilove, with plenty of time for student questions.

When: Oct. 11, 4PM

Where: Usdan 108

Check out the facebook event or follow the jump to read about the panelists.

Panelists include:
-Author Mark Winne will provide insight of his work in Connecticut, on Food Policy Councils and his experience as an author writing about food justice.

-Roberta Friedman who is the policy director at Yale’s Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity research. Roberta will likely primarily discuss the public health implications of our current food systems.

-Lucy Nolan from End Hunger CT! will also be joining us to discuss the socio-economic impacts of our current food system in the United States.

-Jiff Martin, whom Mark Winne suggested, will also be joining us to provide insight to the environmental implications of our current food systems.
