Play at WestCo Open Mic-> Win a Spot at 8th Day of the Week -> Become Supastar

Before he was leader singer/heart-throb of emo-titans 30 Seconds to Mars, actor/singer Jared Leto got his start performing at WestCo’s weekly open micBen Goldwasser ’05 and Jared Leto formed proto-MGMT/Mars act The Canteloupes in 2003. The Canteloupes were scouted at a Westco open mic and invited to play at the dorm’s annual music/arts festival, 8th Day of the Week. The rest is history.***

This week’s open mic features a special opportunity for the ppl of Wesleyan who aspire to reach The Canteloupes’ heights.

Tomorrow, the best performers at WestCo’s open mic will be given an opportunity to open for the musical acts at 8th Day of the Week. Last year’s 8th Day featured a truly awesome performance by Twin Shadow (prolly in my top 5 Wesleyan shows ever). Rumors surrounding this year’s line-up suggest the festival will, once again, not disappoint.

The acts will be selected by audience reception during the open mic, so try and get your friends to come cheer you on! As per usual, performers will be expected to play around 2 songs (no more than 6-8min). Sign up for the open mic begins at 9:45pm in the cafe.
