you+phone+computer=stopping criminalization of women

SURPRISE turns out oppression happens in the dark too. That’s why Zak Kirwood ’12 would like your help in dealing with this nonsense:

tomorrow from 6:30 to 9:30 there will be a statewide phonebank to stop the passage of Initiative 26 in Mississippi, which would change the legal definition of the word “person” in the Mississippi constitution to include “every human being from the moment of fertilization, cloning, of the function equivalent thereof”. People who get or perform abortions, use or distribute certain forms of birth control, or have miscarriages may be charged with murder if this is approved by voters in Mississippi.
more info here and here.

Planned Parenthood of Southern New England has set up a program for anyone with a computer and cellphone to make calls to voters in Mississippi tomorrow evening using a script and talking points that will be provided to us.

It’s a really hectic time on campus and in the world right now.  But if anyone can spare however much time they want to make some calls tomorrow evening, we have a chance at defeating this measure.

if you are interested or have any questions or concerns, please email me at zkirwood [AT] wesleyan [DOT] edu and tomorrow I will forward along instructions on how to access the program. We can even meet up in Usdan and phonebank together!

  • Date: Tomorrow, November 3rd
  • Time: 6:30pm-9:30pm
  • Place: Wherever you have cell phone and internet access (which might not be applicable to a lot of people in CT right now )
