MINDS: Volunteer Experiences in India

On Friday,February 10th, 2012 at 5pm, The MINDS Foundation is hosting recent Wesleyan volunteers who have just returned from India.

Volunteers are: Raghu Appasani ’12, Shyam Desai ’15, Sam Douglas ’12, Emma Kingsberg ’12, Rehan Mehta ’14, Lauren Seo ’14, Rishi Shah ’12, Zach Valenti ’12

The Minds Foundation (TMF) (www.mindsfoundation.org) is dedicated to providing support for – and eliminating the stigma of -mental illness in developing countries.

These volunteers are returned from India in late January, where the first critical Phase of the TMF India project has been completed.  The efficacy of the program is currently being analyzed through our relationships with Mount Sinai in mid-February, but the initial results are clear: 18 rural villages (~5400 citizens) have been educated about mental illness and will begin receiving treatment starting February 1st.   At this gathering, key findings will be presented, the CEO will offer a window into the future of this organization and provide an exclusive glimpse at a TMF documentary movie that is currently being filmed.

We would be delighted if you could join us – to learn more and to offer your thoughts…and to enjoy some Indian appetizers.

When: Friday, 2/10/12, at 5pm
Where: Allbritton 311
