The Newer and Newest German Cinema Series kicks off the semester with the film Yella, by Christian Petzold (2007).
The screening will be at the Powell Family Cinema (in the Center for Film Studies) on Wednesday, February 22, with an introduction by Professor Leo Lensing, Wesleyan’s chair of German Studies. As Stephen Holden writes in his review of the film for the New York Times:
“Christian Petzold’s enigmatic thriller offers a surreal X-ray vision of cutthroat capitalism in 21st-century Germany.”
