Music Recitals goin’ down on Saturday

Hey folks! Just a quick note to bring some attention to these two senior music theses things going down tomorrow. It’s a perfect place to unwind if you’re still hung over from the night before, or if you’re looking for an excuse to take somebody out to something without it having to be too awkward, or indeed, if it is the case you actually enjoy music.

Lana “Lana” Lana ’12 is playing the Memorial Chapel at 2pm, with a focus on 20th century piano works of Indonesian composers and works related to Indonesian music in general. Click here for the facebook event, which has more information.

Andrew “Chungle” Chung ’12 is playing Crowell at 7pm. According to his facebook event, it’s entitled #OCCUPYNEWMUSIC with the description being: “…because 99% of all recitals feature the top 1% of composers. or something.” He concludes: “come watch me touch a lot of piano.” Click here for the Fb event and details.

Peace out – it’s party time.

LA Beat Scene demi-God Matthewdavid is bringing his-self to Eclectic Haus TONIGHT . He’s released an album on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label, which should give you an idea of what to expect. This is chilled out, experimental hip hop production at its finest.

Opening is Wesleyan’s very own C¥BERGIGA  (Sam Lyon’s ’12)with special guest, Don (Don ’12). They slay.

The embedded song is so beautiful and strange.

  • Date: Tonight, Friday- 4/6/12

Film Series: Starship Troopers

1997. USA. Dir: Paul Verhoeven. With Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards. 129 min.

When a meteor launched by giant killer space-bugs destroys Buenos Aires, it’s up to a leatherneck ranger, a hot-shot pilot, and a psychic Neil Patrick Harris to save humanity. Verhoeven’s vision of our fascistic future is both a big dumb action flick full of beautiful young people and a prescient satire of American foreign policy with a nod to old propaganda films. Would you like to know more?

Tonight. 8pm. Goldsmith Family Cinema. $5.

“westco courtyard work day post!!!!!!”

It’s been a little while since WILD Wes has been inserted into an unrelated post, so I thought Manon Lefevre ’14 could bring the goods. And keep an eye out for special guest “gabe asphalt.jpg”:

gabe concrete.jpgSpring is here and major work is happening in the WestCo courtyard. We’ve digging rain gardens, trenches, holes, a water system, and all kinds of stuff, hacking up asphalt, and building up infrastructure to get ready to put plants in the ground. As it gets nicer and nicer and we are edging closer and closer to the end of the semester, we still have sooo much work to do –  we need help to make this vision a reality!
This weekend, we are planting actual trees! Also digging and lots of other things!

Oh, and you all saw the WILD Wes documentary, right? Wasn’t that somethin’? Seriously: are things on the Internet “things”? Is “thing” anything more than a label for concepts and so not necessarily commensurate with reality? Can anything be said to exist outside of our own minds? Ooooooookay yeah.

Austen Fiora ’12 brings us some real shit, which is appropriate, because he’s totally some real shit:

When was the last time you got in the pit and tried to love someone?
This Friday in the Cafe, four bands will be trashin.

Hoax (Western Massachusetts) A new EP on Youth Attack! confirms
mysterious-guy status. Dark, paranoid woods hardcore.

Crazy Spirit (NYC) Totally deranged, weirdo riffing. On tour with

Iron Hand (CT) These guys have been putting in work, dropping two 7″s
since their last show at Wesleyan. Straight-ahead but distinctive
crushing, melodic D-beat.

Heavy Breath (CT) “Stoner hardcore” comes to mind. Like Blacklisted
and Refused hit the bong and got groovy.
