1997. USA. Dir: Paul Verhoeven. With Casper Van Dien, Denise Richards. 129 min.
When a meteor launched by giant killer space-bugs destroys Buenos Aires, it’s up to a leatherneck ranger, a hot-shot pilot, and a psychic Neil Patrick Harris to save humanity. Verhoeven’s vision of our fascistic future is both a big dumb action flick full of beautiful young people and a prescient satire of American foreign policy with a nod to old propaganda films. We’ve digging rain gardens, trenches, holes, a water system, and all kinds of stuff, hacking up asphalt, and building up infrastructure to get ready to put plants in the ground. As it gets nicer and nicer and we are edging closer and closer to the end of the semester, we still have sooo much work to do – we need help to make this vision a reality!
This weekend, we are planting actual trees! Also digging and lots of other things!
