From Gavin Swee ’13:
Wesleyan’s Chinese Music Ensemble teams up with the Wesleyan Orchestra and Chorus for our biggest concert yet! Here’s why you should come to the show:
(1) We are performing pieces from the suite of Dream of the Red Chamber, which is one of the Four Great Classics of Chinese Literature. This suite is correspondingly one of the most evocative pieces in Chinese Music! [We’ll provide translations and romanizations for you!]
(2) Yang Min, our solo vocalist, is trained in the Chinese soprano style, which is so rare in this part of the world! [We just had rehearsal yesterday, and she sounds so good!]
(3) Besides Dream of the Red Chamber, we’ll have other pieces in various regional styles and settings—get a glimpse of “China” for just $2!
Here’s a sample of one of the pieces we’re going to play.
Date: Sunday, May 6
Time: 8:00 – 9:30 pm
Place: Crowell Concert Hall
Cost: $2 students; $3 general public
