1947. USA. Dir: Orson Welles. With Welles, Rita Hayworth. 87 min.
An Irish deck-hand’s affair with the sultry wife of a conniving attorney inevitably leads to no good: a murder plot, a legal battle teeming with sharks, and a dizzyingly virtuosic visit to a hall of mirrors. Convoluted to a criminally insane degree, this noir’s mad creativity remains revered, unmarred by the presence of Welles’ perversely unconvincing faux-brogue.
Tonight, October 20th. 8pm. Goldsmith Family Cinema. Free.
