WeSLAM Featuring Franny Choi: Preliminary Slam No. 3

The good folks of WeSLAM bring you the third and final preliminary slam of the semester. For poets interested in signing up to perform, there is important SIGN UP INFORMATION after the jump!

Come to Malcolm X House this Saturday to watch 10 poets battle it out to decide the final 4 competitors in the grand slam final! These 4, along with the 8 other finalists from previous preliminaries, will compete on December 5th for one of 5 slots on Wesleyan’s slam poetry team.

This weekend we are poetically blessed to have Franny Choi as our feature. Franny was a finalist at the 2012 Individual World Poetry Slam and a finalist at both the 2011 National Poetry Slam and the 2011 Women of the World Poetry Slam. Franny also works as an organizer with the Providence Youth Student Movement (PrYSM), a non-profit that challenges and supports Southeast Asian youth to become leaders, organizers, and critical thinkers. Franny is undoubtedly going to bring the house down.

Franny will also be hosting a workshop at 2pm on Saturday (day of the slam!) in Usdan 110. Come practice, come hang, come spend a few hours not worrying about homework.

Seating IS LIMITED, so if you want to go down with it, make sure to get there on time!

Date: Saturday, Nov 17th
Time: 7:30 – 10:00 pm
Place: Malcom X House

There is a NEW SIGN-UP PROCEDURE for this slam! If you want to slam, email Weslam.wesleyan@gmail.com on November 17th (the day of the slam) AFTER 5pm. The first 9 poets to email after 5pm will be guaranteed spots in the slam. All the other poets to email will be placed in the lottery.

To compete in a preliminary slam, you need TWO poems (10 poets in the first round, 7 move on to the 2nd round). For those who have slammed before: YOUR FIRST ROUND POEM MUST NEVER HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT A COLLEGE SLAM. This means at Wesleyan last year, or at any other college. Your second round poem does not have to be new.

And of course, email WeSLAM.wesleyan@gmail.com with any questions.
