Holly Everett ’15 writes in with an amazing opportunity to take part in a workshop with and experience a conceptual project by deaf sound artist and composer Christine Sun Kim. This Saturday join us for a two part event featuring Christine Sun Kim, a deaf sound artist and composer. Miss Kim investigates the visual manifestations of sound as an expression of her agency and ownership of it. In this new work, Self Notary Public, Christine presents “a conceptual attempt to legitimatize [her] presence through vocalizing.”

About Christine: Christine Sun Kim hails from Orange County, California and is a recent graduate of Bard College with a MFA in Music/Sound. She currently lives and works in New York City. Her art pieces have been multi-categorized as drawings, performances, installations, workshops, and talks. Overall, she considers herself a composer and social practitioner. Her work has been featured in exhibitions/programs at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy; Recess Activities, New York; TCB Gallery, Melbourne; Art+Lounge Dibang, Seoul; and Kunstraum Kreuzberg, Berlin. In the past, Sun Kim was a recipient of Mellon Tri-College Creative Residency at Haverford College, Youth Insights Artist Residency at Whitney Museum, and Emergency Grant from Foundation for Contemporary Arts. She was recently selected as one of TED Fellows for this year. When not conducting social experiments, she replies to months-old emails with guilt.
