WE Speak WE Stand Bystander Intervention Program

Kitty Genovese

WesWell Director Tanya Purdy invites you to speak up and stand up for your friends and classmates:

WE Speak, WE Stand aims to create a community that is actively engaged in the prevention of sexual assault, relationship violence and advocates for the responsible use of alcohol. The goal of the program is to empower bystanders to intervene in high risk situations involving alcohol use, sexual assault and relationship violence. Empowered bystanders make the campus community safer by standing up and speaking out when they witness situations that could potentially harm the health and safety of others. Intervening with peers can be challenging for a number of reasons and training will provide you with the skills to move from inaction to action and intervene safely and effectively.

BELLIG Info Session

rupaul-drag-race

From the forever fab dahhhhhling Johnny Lazebnik ’16:

BELLIG. Is it an acronym? No. It’s in all caps, but that’s just because we’re glamazons.

BELLIG is short for “belligerent,” which is exactly what we were when we found out that there was no pre-existing group for students to experiment with the beautiful, mahhhhvelous art of drag.

Drag refers to the glorious extravaganza when individuals, typically men, genderbend. BELLIG is going to be a flurry of sick’ning false lashes, heels, and a few skirts so short you wouldn’t let your own daughter go out in them.

It’s fine. Because we’ll look fishier in them than any girl ever could. Except possibly Madonna, Our Lord and Savior, Hallowed Be Her Fake English Accent.

SO COME TO THE FIRST EVER BELLIG MEETING. NO STRINGS ATTACHED. BRING NOTHING BUT YOURSELF AND GET READY TO W.E.R.Q.

This kiki will be mahhhhhhvelous, hunty.

Date: Tomorrow, February 3rd
Time: 3:30pm
Place: Usdan MPR
Facebook: Can we pretty please have a kiki?

Keystone XL Pipeline Protest Interest Meeting

keystone-xl-protest-dc-2012-post

From Zach Burns ’14, Isabel Stern ’14, and Evan Weber ’13:

On Sunday, February 17, thousands of Americans will head to Washington, D.C. to make Forward on Climate the largest climate rally in history.

That means a fuckton of Wes-kids need to be there to make our voices heard and help the president start his second term with strong climate action by rejecting the Keystone XL Pipeline.

This is a big deal, and the more people we bring, the bigger it will be and the more fun we will have. Come to the UOC (University Organizing Center, between Beta and Eclectic) at 2pm on Sunday to find out all the deetz and make transportation and other logistical plans.

In 2009, sitting at a table with a bunch of young environmental organizers, President Obama told them: “Your job is to push me.” Unless we show him and the newly appointed Secretary of State John Kerry that lighting off one of the biggest carbon bombs in North America is a really, really, bad idea, he won’t have the political courage to reject this pipeline that climate activists, the media, and Congressional Republicans have turned into a huge political issue. So come to the meeting on Sunday, find out more about the action and the issues, and get pumped to move forward.

Date: Tomorrow, February 3rd
Time: 2pm
Place: University Organizing Center (between Beta and Eclectic)
