Request for Proposals: Student Commission
Due: Friday, March 1, 2013
As a part of Music & Public Life, the Center for the Arts is accepting proposals from Wesleyan students for the creation of a musical composition based upon environmental themes intended to inform/educate the public about the issues connected to the FOOD-WATER-LIFE—LUCY+JORGE ORTA exhibition. A goal of this commission is to bring campus awareness to the role of music in the environmental movement, a boom area within ethnomusicology today. The proposal should consist of a project idea that will be created and executed by the end of the semester.
Proposals will be evaluated by faculty in the Music Department and College of the Environment as well as the Center for the Arts. The proposals and the selection process will be based on the creativity of the submission, the connection to the themes in the exhibition, evidence of cross-disciplinary thinking and the feasibility of the project. The selected proposal will be awarded $200.
Proposals should include 1-2 page written description and sound sample.
Submit proposals to Program Manager Erinn Roos-Brown by email (eroosbrown(at)wes) or delivered to the Center for the Arts office (located above Zilkha Gallery) by 11:59pm on Friday, March 1.
Sponsored by the College of the Environment, the Music Department, and the Center for the Arts.
Deadline: March 1st
Submission Place: CFA Office (above Zilkha)
Cost: Potentially MAKE $200
