From orientation intern Kate Davis ’16:
WE Speak WE Stand is two series of monologues written and performed by Wesleyan students addressing sexual violence and alcohol use. These peer theatre pieces are a powerful introduction to sexual violence and alcohol use on campus and aim to create a campus that is actively engaged in the prevention of sexual assault and relationship violence and advocates for the responsible use of alcohol.
***If you would like to perform, please contact Alysha B. Warren, Therapist/Sexual Assault Resource Coordinator, no later than Friday, July 19th – awarren[at]wesleyan[dot]edu – reference “We Speak We Stand” in the subject line. Please review all information and if you decide to participate, please send Alysha your student id and cell phone number with the time to contact you for a quick phone interview.***
More info after the jump:
Fifteen to twenty volunteers are needed. The more performers, the fewer parts each person would be required to play. Current students of all class years are welcome to participate. Three skits require eight performers while the others are monologues or two-person dialogues. Currently, we have an all female bodied and female identified cast. We are seeking male bodied and male identified performers.
These skits are performed as “reader’s theatre”, where the performers carry a script to refer to rather than fully memorizing them. Performers are encouraged to be familiar enough with the material that they do not need to read from their script verbatim. The setting is very minimal and no costumes are worn, allowing audience members to use their imaginations to fill in details, based on what they are hearing.
Performers must be available for ALL sessions to participate and are encouraged to rehearse on their own as well.
