Emily Weitzman ’14 writes:

The first preliminary slam of the semester is here.

10 poets. 2 rounds. Who will take the first three spots in the Wesleyan Final Slam? Come watch these poets battle with beautiful words. Anyone is welcome to slam, regardless of experience.

If you’ve never been to a slam before: come! If you’ve been to every slam we’ve ever had: come! You will laugh and snap and cheer and cry and maybe make some silly faces. WeSLAM is going into its 4th year, and we want to start it off right. You’re not going to want to miss this.

But that’s not all. We’re starting off the semester with an unbelievable guest feature and host: MEGAN FALLEY!

  • WHEN?: Friday at 7:30pm
  • WHERE?: WestCo Café
  • FACEBOOK?: Here.

For those interested in participating in the slam, there is more info below the jump.

To compete in a preliminary slam, you need TWO poems. YOUR FIRST ROUND POEM MUST NEVER HAVE BEEN PERFORMED AT A COLLEGE SLAM. This means at Wesleyan, or any other college. Your second poem does not have to be new.

SIGN-UPS are done by emailing weslam.wesleyan(at)gmail(dot)com on September 20th (the day of the slam) AFTER 5 PM. The first 9 poets to email after 5 PM will be guaranteed spots in the slam. All the other poets to email will be placed in a lottery to be the 10th poet in the slam.

During the fall semester, WeSLAM will hold THREE preliminary slams. The top THREE poets from each prelim will move on to the Final Slam. The Final Slam, held at the end of November, will create a 5 person slam poetry team, who will represent Wesleyan at regional and national intercollegiate poetry slams during second semester.
