Sometimes, senior theses don’t just stop after #thesiscrazy ends. If they’re really something, and the person continues hir work after ze graduates, that thesis can become something even bigger. Samantha Joy Pearlman ’11 made that happen. She is promoting a new IndieGogo campaign for her thesis-show-turned-real-show Devotedly, Sincerely Yours: The Story of the USO, which she wrote and stars in.
The show is “a swingin’ big band celebration of the female performers of the United Service Organization (USO) Camp Shows during WWII,” and it needs funding to make its next big step into the world of theater. So far, the campaign raised $3,220 out of its reasonable $5,000 goal and there are 13 days left in the campaign. You can help out with this great project, and then go see what you helped create!
Pearl sent us this email to help, which explains a bit of what she’s doing with this great show:
Hey Wesleying! I am writing to see if you are willing to help me publicize my Indiegogo campaign. I did this show as my senior thesis at Wesleyan in 2011, then brought it to the Philly Fringe last year… and now the Annenberg Center for Performing Arts at UPenn is producing my piece in their By-Local Artist Series. I need all the support I can get and I was hoping that you could please share with our Wes community to not only get people to donate, but hopefully come see the show on October 18th and 19th in Philly! THANK YOU!
This is really an exciting chance to help a member of the Wesleyan theater community bring her original show to a new, bigger audience. And it might be nice if Pearlman could pay her actors and workers. So we did what we could, promoting this cause, and it’s up to you to help Devotedly, Sincerely Yours succeed beyond Wesleyan.
Also, if you check the Funders page, “Michael Roth” is listed under “$50 – “Pin Up Girl” status. So let’s just appreciate that for a moment.
End date of the campaign: October 3rd, 2013
