openmic

From the world famous English Major’s Committee:

We are excited to invite you to our first open mic night of the year! The open mic is a time for anyone to get up and share their work (poem, stories, plays, etc) with an audience of their peers (and perhaps faculty).  All you have to do is sign up is write your name in a 5 minute slot in the google doc I have attached below or come a few minutes early to the event. This semester’s open mic will be this Friday, October 4 at 7 pm in Downey House Lounge.

We are also honored to announce that Professor Elizabeth Willis will be out headliner! She will start the night by reading her own poetry. And for those of you who are not familiar with her award winning work, get excited by reading  a few of her poems here and here.

Come join us for a wonderful evening of coffee, cookies, and student work. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet other passionate writers and lovers of writing. Bring your friends!

Stethoscope Press Deadline Extension

Steth_Ext_Post

Alec Harris ’14 writes:

Stethoscope Press is extending the deadline for submissions for both books and chapbooks! Submissions are now due Friday, October 4th at 11:59pm, so do not delay!

We are Wesleyan’s only student-run press. We publish books by individual student writers, who work one-on-one with our editors all year. We will help take you from idea to creative work to layout to published book. If selected, you will meet fortnightly with your editor to work on your project. The final book will be thirty to fifty pages and beautifully designed. To submit, please send the following to stethoscopepress(at)gmail(dot)com:

  • A project proposal of one or two paragraphs explaining your idea for your book as well as your interest in publishing a long-format work. Any and all genres accepted.
  • A sample of your previous work. This should be about five pages and in the genre in which you plan to write your book.

More after the jump!

Deloitte Consulting Information Session

deloitte-logo-2011

From Lisa Lee ’13:

This Sunday Deloitte Consulting will be hosting an information session for Wesleyan students who are interested in joining Deloitte as a Business Analyst after graduation.

The Business Analyst (BA) program provides the opportunity to work with Deloitte teams to help implement new processes and develop strategic solutions for clients across all industries and service lines. Given this line of work, strong candidates should be top academic performers with solid analytical skills.

Throughout the program, Business Analysts will also develop consulting skills and capabilities by collaborating with peers and senior practitioners on a day-to-day basis. As such, top candidates should also possess strong interpersonal skills and demonstrate leadership qualities and a strong work ethic.

The event will feature Deloitte professionals, many who are also Wesleyan alumni, with pizza and a meet and greet afterwards.

Note: Last day for resume drops is 11:59PM on October 8th.

Date: Sunday, September 29
Time: 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Place: Wesleyan Career Center

DONCHRISTIAN, C¥BERGIGA, and FXWRK at Eclectic, 11:00 PM

Courtesy of Chelsie Green ’14, whose name and class year rhyme in a very satisfying manner:

DONCHRISTIAN
He released his debut mixtape, The Wayfarer, last month and has received good press from media such as Spin and The Fader. Download it for some laid-back rap. Hopefully we’ll see some D’Angelo-ing up in here, and at the very least, dancing.

C¥BERGIGA
This Tokyo-raised ginger will most likely be getting all emotional, deeply feeling every sound he shares with us. Italian Vogue actually used his song “Tokyo Nostalgic” in a video, which is pretty incredible.

FXWRK
You can count on some trap-ish instrumentals that cause your mind to wander off somewhere. She’s not afraid to move her body for you as she gifts you with her music, so please give her the same respect. Thank you.

Date: Saturday, September 28
Time: 11:00 PM – 2:00 AM
Place: Eclectic
