Business Perspectives on Environmental Sustainability

From Makaela Kingsley in the Patricelli Center for Social Entrepreneurship:

Business Perspectives on Environmental Sustainability: A Talk by Kira (Markiewicz) Fabrizio ’97, Assistant Professor of Strategy & Innovation, Boston University School of Management

The media is full of stories pointing the finger at larger corporations for activities that destroy the natural environment, as well as cases trumpeting the “green” business activities of other firms. What makes some firms invest in environmental performance, while others ignore the impact that their operations have on the environment? Whether you want to be a change agent inside a firm, drive change working from a non-profit, create a new firm with sustainable practices, or just consider the business-environment interface, it is important to understand the nature of the business case for environmental sustainability.

In preparation for the talk, you are invited to:

  1. Calculate your carbon footprint.
  2. Review the “green” strategy of Clearwater seafood: HERE and HERE.
  3. Examine the environmental performance of a company of your choosing, using information in the Carbon Disclosure Project.

The talk will begin promptly at noon and end by 1 p.m. Kira will be available for private drop-in sessions immediately after. Lunch will be served for those who register by October 6.

Date: Wednesday, October 9th
Time: 12pm-1pm
Place: Allbritton 311
