From Ari Ebstein ’16:
Alice Maggio ’10 is coming to speak this Thursday @ 200 Church from 7:00-8:30 about her role as Program Director of the Berkshares local currency program in Berkshires, MA. As she writes in the description of her talk, “Local currency as a tool for citizen-based economic development,” that by fixating for decades on the global economy we have “lost many of the tools and models that helped local and regional economies to function.” One such tool is local currency. Berkshares — one of the nation’s largest local currencies — provides one such model for sustainable, local economic revitalization.
The talk will be sponsored by the Sociology and French departments.
Here is PBS’s profile of the local currency — check it out! :)
