We’re human and we like things. I love that I’ve met so many folks at Wes with passions they get stoked about, some of which I’ve never even heard. Wesleying wants to know about YOURS.
WHAT ARE YOU PASSIONATE ABOUT?
(examples after the jump)
If you’d like some recent examples of Weskids with passions:
Josh Krugman ’14 cares about Wesleyan and its need-blind policy.
Ryan Moye ’16 likes dinosaurs.
Amanda Belichik ’07 is devoted to lacrosse.
and some responses from Wesleying staff for more fodder:
I’m passionate about cetacean (dolphin and whale) rights. These animals are intelligent and social, just like us, and because of that, they shouldn’t be locked in cages or hunted at all. For anyone who is interested in these issues, I highly recommend watching the documentaries “Blackfish” and “The Cove”.
My passion has always been music. The people and culture and history behind music- and specifically how economics and race play into all of that. But really what I love most is just listening to music, going to concerts, photographing concerts, and finding new music. When someone introduces you to a new band and you get obsessed- there’s nothing better in the world.
Languages, especially the dead ones. If you think of a language as an expression of a world view, or better still, as a way of being in the world, then learning a language that hasn’t been spoken in hundreds, maybe thousands, of years, makes you feel kind of like a time traveling wizard.
Consider this a chance to expose others to the awesome subjects you love. Otherwise, you’ll never know if there’s another homie at Wes passionate about hailing Satan or never wearing socks or bikeriding for charity* or even the documentary Babies.
*yeah, that was a parks and rec reference from the best episode ever, whatchu gonna do?
