Meditation and you

The lovely Katie McLaughlin ’15 is keeping you in mind. Another memo:

Wesleyan’s month of mindfulness is kicking off its first FREE class this Wednesday night from 6:30-7:30 PM. There will also be a hike this Sunday February 9 (2-5 PM) with the outing club that will entail about an hour of hiking followed by journaling with tea and cocoa in outhouse. Please email Katie at kmclaughlin(at)wesleyan(dot)edu if you are interested in going on the hike and let her know if you have access to a car.

You may have many questions about meditation. What is it? How do I do it? There are many different kinds of meditation out there. Where do I start? How do I sustain a practice in this crazy, busy world? Why even bother? What is all the hype about “Mindfulness?”

Thirty years of scientific research has proven that people who regularly practice mindfulness experience decreased stress and anxiety, better focus and concentration, increased empathy and understanding of others, increased sense of calm, and skillful responses to difficult emotions. Come learn the basic practice of mindfulness meditation and walking meditation. Come with curiosity, compassion and wonder. Dress comfortably and be prepared simply to try your best.
