Film Series: McCabe & Mrs. Miller

1971. USA. Dir: Robert Altman. With Warren Beatty, Julie Christie. 120 min.

A vagabond gambler and a tough-minded prostitute strike up a business arrangement that becomes threatened when a predatory mining corporation arrives in town. Altman’s reimagining of the turn-of-the-century Northwestern frontier treads a poignant balance between violence and interpersonal warmth, all delivered with sweeping, painterly beauty.
