Student Forum: Critical University Studies

Sophie Massey ’15 writes in about an information session for a new student forum this fall:

Come learn more about what Critical University Studies is! There will also be copies of the syllabus and course texts available.  We will solidify the time the course will meet, and begin to figure out who will be enrolled in the course. Film Series: An American In Paris

1951. USA. Dir: Vincente Minnelli. With Gene Kelly, Leslie Caron. 113 min.

Kelly dances and woos Caron amidst cafe?s, canals, and catchy Gershwin tunes like “S’Wonderful” and “I Got Rhythm.” This sparkling musical may represent the apex of MGM’s extravagant Technicolor production design – after all, why go to Paris when you can build it better in studio? – with the climactic art-inspired dream ballet as its pie?ce de re?sistance.

Tonight / 8 p.m. / Goldsmith Family Cinema / Free

Psi U Back to School BBQ TODAY

From Atreyavinayak D. Sinha ’17:

Imagine an incredible barbecue with all of your best friends for the cost of a cup of coffee on the most beautiful day of the year. Now imagine all that happening today at Psi U.

We’re coming in hot with a welcome back BBQ, so grease up your guts, grab a spatula and start fasting for the beefiest burger fest you’ve ever experienced. Everyone is welcome! It’s 4 points for Freshman (who we all know have more meals than points) and 6 points for everyone else. I can assure you right now that the condiment game will be on point. At the time this post was being written, Tobias Thor Lichtenstein himself was headed back from Price Chopper with an XXL jar of relish.

Anyway, I digress. If you enjoy stimulating intellectual conversation as well as flexing, come on down to 242 High Street this Saturday so we can fire up the grill and set this year ablaze. Our doors are open to one and all so come thru to the U and we’ll make a thing of it.

All students are welcome. If you have any questions, please contact Daniel Wittenberg (dwittenberg@wes), Spencer Gooding (sgooding@wes) or Atreya Sinha (asinha@wes). We look forward to seeing you all there.

Date: Today, Saturday, September 6th, 2014
Time: 5PM
Place: 242 High St.
Cost: 6 points (4 for Freshmen)

Godspell Auditions!

From Anthony Dean ’17:

Godspell is a musical about Jesus! What could be more fun!?!? It’s going to be the most exciting, free-spirited celebration of friendship, loyalty, and love ever seen on stage (or off stage?????) Everyone in the show gets to wear the funkiest clothes, sing the dopest jams, and praise our lord and savior!! DOESN’T THAT SOUND LIKE FUN?!?!! We are going to make this show unlike the normal theater experience—involving a fair amount of improv, audience interaction, and location-inspired action.

Intrigued? OF COURSE YOU ARE! SO AUDITION ALREADY! Auditions are going to be Monday 9/08 & Tuesday 9/09 from 6 to 9 PM with callbacks Wednesday 09/10 from 6 to 9 PM. All you need for the audition is a smile, a short section of a song, and a short lil’ bit of a monologue.

To sign up for a time, use this handy Google Doc. Contact Anthony (asdean(at)wesleyan(dot)edu) for any questions or concerns you may have or just to say hi.

Dates: Monday, September 8th and Tuesday, September 9th, 2014
Time: 6-9PM
Place: Music Studios 301
