Wesleyan Doula Project Info Session

Julia Vermeulen ’15 writes in:

The Wesleyan Doula Project, founded two years ago, is training a new cohort of Doulas!

Doulas are non-medical support people who provide emotional, physical, and informational support to people making choices about their reproductive health. Our project focuses on abortion doulaing, and trains a dedicated group of Wesleyan students to work in the procedure and recovery rooms at two Planned Parenthood abortion clinics.

For security reasons, patients aren’t allowed to bring anyone with them for support during the procedure. Abortion doulas work alongside the medical staff to provide the best possible care to the patients.

The training is scheduled for November 8th-9th, and attendance at the info session is mandatory for participation in the training. SPACE IS LIMITED. At the info session, we will go over the history of the Wesleyan Doula Project, the role of a doula and the expectations of Wesleyan abortion doulas, and the application process for the training. There will obviously be snacks.

If you’re passionate about reproductive justice and want be involved in the first (and only!) doula project based on a college campus, please attend the info session to learn about our work and get involved!

Date: Wednesday, October 8th AND Thursday, October 9th
Time: 8:15-9 PM
Place: Judd 116
