Studio Performance—Fleur D’Orange; Hind Benali, Artistic Director

From Andrew Chatfield:

“The multi-talented Hind Benali is at the forefront of the contemporary dance scene in Morocco.”
—Morocco: Globalization and its Consequences

Choreographer/dancer Hind Benali founded the contemporary dance company Fleur D’Orange in 2006 in Casablanca, Morocco—a culture where women do not dance publicly—following her initial training in ballet and later travels to France and sub-Saharan Africa. At Wesleyan, Ms. Benali will present a studio showing with her collaborators and talk about her work, which explores the limits and freedoms of her country’s history and current practices, and the many layers of gender, culture, and religion. This event is part of “Muslim Women’s Voices at Wesleyan.”
