1974. USA. Dir: Mel Brooks. With Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn. 106 min.
A descendant of Dr. Frankenstein (that’s “Frahnk-en-steen,” thank you) gets more than he bargained for when he inherits great-grandpa’s Transylvanian castle – and the urge to reanimate dead tissue along with it. Brooks’s spoofery somehow manages both affection and irreverence while injecting its source material with sex, silliness, and a little soft-shoe too.
