So last week, we made a call for student Halloween costumes. There are roughly 2,900 students attending Wes, and we received a total of SEVEN costume submissions—that’s 0.2% of the student body. That kind of turnout is only comparable to that of our athletic events (except for baseball–we have the highest attendance in all of D3!).
Without further ado, a non-representative sample of people who are clearly more enthusiastic about their costumes than you were about yours:
Costume: Bob and Linda Belcher
“LR ’16 came over dressed as Linda Belcher. I didn’t have a costume. She said, “You could be Bob.” 15 minutes later, we had this. DIY like a boss.” — GR ’16
Costume: Shotaru Kaneda from Akira
“This costume is v important to me because Akira is one of my favorite animated movies of all time. If you have not seen this movie, prepare to get brainfucked by the amazing animation, theologian themes and one of the most intense movie climaxes you’ve ever seen. Not many people know that I secretly love to cosplay and this was completely DIY given that replica jackets fetch a hefty price. Although the anime may not be widely known, I know there are folks out there who will enjoy seeing this costume!” — MM ’15
Costume: Foss Hill
“I got a lot of weird stares until people got it.” — KS ’17
Costume: Doctor Krieger from Archer
“I’ve always wanted to be a ginger for a day.” — WM ’17
Costume: Tate from American Horror Story
“Most people didn’t recognize it was from AHS, probably because I look nothing like Evan Peters or they’re unfamiliar with the first season. Still, people came up to me and were like, ‘damn, that’s creepy/impressive.’ I just wore a bunch of black shit I’d normally wear and Shelby Dillon ’16 did my makeup. It’s all in the makeup.” — JG ’16
Costume: Rosie the Riveter & Diva Cup
“I am proud to report that I helped someone complete Wesleying’s Halloween game. At a party in the Fountain backyards, Dylan Nelson ’15 pointed at me and asked, ‘Are you Rosie the Riveter?’ When I said yes, he screamed, ‘BINGO!!!!'” — PJ ’15
Costume: Lorde, Max from Where the Wild Things Are, and Betty Boop
“The worst part of Halloween is having to explain your costume.” — MS ’18
And last, but not least, a Twitter submission from WesWings’ own Ed Thorndike ’89:
