Ebony Singers Winter Concert

Enjoy the melodious sounds of Wesleyan’s Ebony Singers under the direction of Dr. Marichal Monts ’85. This concert will include traditional as well as contemporary gospel tunes that will have your hands clapping and your feet moving.

Leadership @ Wes

After a very successful pilot, the Student Affairs leadership series Leadership @ Wes will be running a session during the winter break from January 12th through January 16th.

This five session series will focus on helping students identify their own leadership styles and building skills to apply their knowledge in relevant situations that are applicable in both Wesleyan specific environments and beyond.

The sessions will focus on a particular topic, including equity and inclusion, sexual violence prevention, and alcohol and other drugs.

Each session is two hours and will be followed by lunch that will be provided to all participants.

Space will be limited and statements of intention are due before December 1, 2014. The statement of intention form can be found here.

Deadline for statements of intention: this Monday, December 1

Celebrate Thanksgiving with the Office of Community Service

OCS Thanksgiving Invite

The OCS is having a party! This is an occasion to not just thank all of the fabulous volunteers who have worked in the community this semester, but also to welcome new students who want to get involved. Come chat over hot cocoa and snacks with OCS staff and volunteers and learn about all the ways you can give back through the 19 student-run programs and work-study positions.

Mission Eye & Ear: Live Improvised Music with Short Experimental Films

Wesleyan undergraduate and graduate musicians will join San Francisco composer Lisa Mezzacappa for the Wesleyan Edition of her ongoing series Mission Eye & Ear. Players form small ensembles to create live scores, on the spot, alongside short experimental films. Presented by Experimental Music Group.

Concert: Music from East Asia

Featuring Wesleyan’s three East Asian ensembles—the Chinese Music Ensemble co-directed by graduate students Joy Lu and Andrew Terwilliger, the Korean Drumming Ensemble directed by Private Lessons Teacher Chunseung Lee, and the Taiko Drumming Ensemble directed by Visiting Instructor in Music Barbara Merjan—this concert presents a variety of musical styles and repertories from East Asian cultures.

Artist Talk: Ghada Amer

Ghada Amer’s work seeks inspiration from pornographic images of women, popular culture, and from medieval Arabic texts on eroticism. At Wesleyan, she will discuss how her paintings explore female desire and its representation(s) using female figures sewn onto canvas and partially hidden behind threads and paint.
