Film Series: Walkabout

1971. UK/Australia. Dir: Nicolas Roeg. With Jenny Agutter, Luc Roeg. 100 min.

Two young siblings become stranded in the vast Australian Outback, with only an Aboriginal teen on his Walkabout to help them survive. Roeg brings the coming-of-age tale to a striking, kaleidoscopic backdrop, where the sweltering landscape is just as much an object of fascination as the characters who traverse it.

Silvernotes Auditions

-1

Samuel Stern ’17 writes in:

Attention Wespeople! Do you sing? Are you able to carry a tune with OR without a bucket? Does the phrase “andante con moto” sound vaguely meaningful to you? If you answered “yes” to any of those, read on: the Silvernotes, currently Wesleyan’s newest acapella group, are holding auditions! If you’re free between 2 and 4 on Saturday or Sunday, or between 9 and 11 pm on Tuesday the 3rd, come by Exley 139 with a song and any music-reading skills you might have. If you’re not free at any of those times and still want to audition (especially if you’re a tenor or bass; we need that low range) then email sastern[at]wesleyan[dot]edu and we’ll see what we can do.

Dates and times:
Saturday, January 31st: 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Sunday, February 1st: 2:00pm – 4:00pm
Tuesday, February 3rd: 9:00pm – 11:00pm
Place: Exley, rm. 139

Film Series: Raiders of the Lost Ark

1981. USA. Dir: Steven Spielberg. With Harrison Ford, Karen Allen. 115 min.

Archeology professor slash snake-hating adventurer Indiana Jones must locate a priceless Judeo-Christian artifact before the Nazis beat him to it. The timeless badass must brave booby traps, power-hungry Germans, and an irate ex-lover in this action-adventure joyride.

Tonight / 8 p.m. / Goldsmith Family Cinema / $5

Allbritton Talks: Unpaid Internships

allb_small
Are unpaid internships exploitative, or is free labor a fair trade for a learning experience? Why do businesses and organizations hire unpaid interns, and should students accept these positions? Who wins and loses in a society where unpaid internships are permitted?

We will consider these questions and more over pizza tomorrow at Allbritton Talks, a new conversation series addressing current events, controversial issues, and the enduring questions of public life. If you’ve got a hot-button issue or ethical quandary you’d like to pick apart as a group, send your suggestions to scapron(at)wesleyan(dot)edu.

This series is sponsored by the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life.

Date: Friday, January 30
Time: 12:00 – 1:00 PM
Place: Allbritton 311
