From Alessandra Cervera ’16:

For four weeks this summer, the teachers at Kibera School for Girls will be updating their curriculum, and too busy to teach. We need YOU to come help the school stay in session!

If you ever wanted to:
Volunteer at an educational day camp, Watch a community help itself, Care for and love some of the most amazing, intelligent girls in the world, Spend time abroad, Be involved with SHOFCO beyond buying or selling those cool bracelets, then consider applying to SHOFCO’s 2015 Summer Institute, and come to our information session!

Some of last summer’s volunteers will be there to tell you about their experiences, answer questions, and give information about the application process.

Shining Hope for Communities (SHOFCO) is a non-profit organization started by Kenedy Odede of Kibera, to improve his community. Kibera is the largest slum in Africa, located next to Nairobi, Kenya. In addition to the Kibera School for Girls, SHOFCO currently runs a clinic, Youth Peer Providers program, Women’s Empowerment Program for HIV-positive women, and a clean water initiative.
