Ron Padgett will read on Wednesday, February 25th, 2015 at 8:00 p.m.
in Wesleyan University’s Russell House, 350 High Street, Middletown,CT.
Ron Padgett, a major poet of the New York School, is also a translatorof Apollinaire, Reverdy, and Blaise Cendrars and a long-time collaborator with artists Joe Brainard, George Schneeman, Jim Dine, and Alex Katz. Having entered the New York literary scene while still attending high school in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Padgett has published dozens of books, including a new volume of Collected Poems and a memoir of Joe Brainard.
Poet David Lehman writes of Padgett’s work: “The great legacy of French Surrealist and Dadaist writing makes itself felt in his poems,” while Voice Literary Supplement contributor Karen Volkman describes Padgett’s 1995 New and Selected Poems as “a fine sampling of a restless, hilarious, and haunting lyric intelligence, a ‘phony’ whose variable voices form a rare and raucous orchestration: the real thing.”
