2014. USA. Dir: Desiree Akhavan. With Akhavan, Rebecca Henderson. 86 min.
A sexually liberated queer twentysomething struggles to become the ideal Persian daughter. Comedy ensues. Shot in Brooklyn with tight schedule and a shoestring budget, Appropriate Behavior is the work of star/director Desiree Akhavan, who’s been dubbed “the next Lena Dunham” by the internet hivemind and “the gay, Iranian Lena Dunham” by an old professor. You might recognize her as one of Hannah’s fellow attendees at the Iowa Writer’s Workshop on the latest season of Girls. In addition to the flurry of Wes-folks that worked on the film behind the scenes, you might also recognize a few familiar Wes-faces onscreen, if you look closely.
The screening will followed by a Skype discussion with star/director Desiree Akhavan.
