From Rebecca Jacobsen ’16:
Interested in making a difference in the Middletown community through a Wesleyan course? Apply for Wesleyan’s Community Research Seminar! Held in the spring semester and open to all juniors and seniors of ALL MAJORS.
In this 1.5 credit sociology class, small teams of students will carry out research projects submitted by local community groups and agencies. These may involve social science, natural science, or arts and humanities themes. Working with the community groups themselves, the teams will design and implement research projects throughout Middlesex County. Last year’s projects included determining the levels of food insecurity among Middletown children compared to children in nearby towns, and working with the North End Action Team (NEAT) to understand what improvements residents of the North End have seen in response to NEAT’s efforts as well as what issues continue to remain that need to be addressed.
