Friendly Reminder: Use Caution When Crossing the Streets

Last week, there were two accidents involving students crossing Church Street. Fortunately, both students have been able to return to campus, and they sustained no serious injuries. P-Safe and Dean Whaley sent an email about the incidents (shared after the jump).

tl;dr Remember to put your phones down and to use crosswalks when crossing the streets!

Dear Students,

We want to alert you that two students were struck by vehicles while crossing Church Street in two separate instances last week.  Both accidents occurred on Church Street between High and Pine Streets.  Although both of the students involved required medical attention, we are relieved that their injuries were minor and they were each able to return to campus after being treated at the hospital.

Given that daylight savings time ended on November 1st and it is getting dark earlier in the evening when many are commuting home at the end of their work day, we ask you to exercise an abundance of caution as you cross the many busy streets that run through our campus.  This is especially necessary if you are on your phone and/or wearing ear buds.  Please also be sure to use available crosswalks.

As always, please do let us know if you have suggestions for improving student safety on our campus.

Stay safe everyone!
