and…. YOU!

Stumped? It’s not a list of people who have IBS. It’s not a list of terrible names for a chihuahua. It’s not a list of people I’m planning to wescam.

It IS a list of people who have had the opportunity to play Lady Bracknell in “The Importance of Being Earnest” by Oscar Wilde, the most homoerotic playwright of the 19th century. As it is now, all of the people in this list got cast in the role and had the time of their lives…are you going to break the chain???

For those of you unfamiliar with this play, “The Importance of Being Earnest” is largely considered Wilde’s best play. This farce satirizes upper-middle class British culture in the 19th century with a plethora of puns, insults, mistaken identities, and of course, bunburries.

Now, you might be asking: how could this production be even more stupendous and queer? GREAT QUESTION. By gender-bending it, of course.

Date: Sunday, January 31st and Monday, February 1st
Time: 3-5pm and 4:30-6:30pm
Place: Usdan Multipurpose Room

More info on auditions / the genderfucking after the jump.

This show will be entirely genderfucked—non-males playing male characters, and non-females playing female characters. If gender is something you fux with on a day-to-day basis, then lucky you! You’ll be able to decide for yourself which gender you’d like to portray. There are 4 female and 5 male roles, and we are looking for 8 actors (one male role will be double-cast).

This show is going up from May 5-7 OUTSIDE IN THE ROUND! We have a full semester to work with corsets, binders, heels, and accents. So come audition! Auditions are in the Usdan Multipurpose Room (in the basement) Sunday, 1/31 from 3-5 and Monday, 2/1 from 4:30-6:30. If you read the Second Stage audition listings, our apologies–we had to change. The above information is correct, though. There is no google doc signup for these auditions, just come anytime in the time slot.

Expect to be there about 10-15 minutes depending on how many others came at the same time as you. All you need to bring is a joke—we’ll give you sides at the audition to play with.
