Refugee Advocacy Training

refugeeadvocacytrainingFrom the Wesleyan Refugee Project:

The Trump administration intends to exclude people from Muslim-majority countries from immigration programs and decimate refugee resettlement. In light of this pressing political climate, the Wesleyan Refugee Project, the Office of Muslim Life, the Middle Eastern Student Union and the Allbritton Center will offer Refugee Advocacy Training on February 1st from 6-8pm in Usdan 110.

The event will feature Steve Poellot, Legal Director of the International Refugee Assistance Project, and Tahirah Amatul-Wadud, legal counsel for a Muslim congregation in New York and an executive board member for CAIR-Massachusetts. Mr. Poellot and Ms. Amatul-Wadud will provide a seminar in refugee and civil rights law and how college students can most effectively advocate for legislation to protect refugee rights and counter Islamophobia. The session will be interactive so please come with questions for these legal experts! Dinner will be provided.
