Please join us next week, Thursday Feb 9th at 4:30pm, to hear writer, activist, and poet Eli Clare read from his just-out-yesterday book Brilliant Imperfection: Grappling with Cure (Duke University Press 2017). Combining memoir, history, and cultural analysis, Brilliant Imperfection explores the deeply held belief that body-minds considered broken need to be fixed. Taking neither an anti- nor pro-cure position, Clare weaves together race, disability, sexuality, class, gender, and environmental politics to uncover the value of body-mind difference.
Also, from 11:50-1:10 on Thursday, students are invited to lunch with Eli to talk about his work, writing, and the state of disability politics today. Lunch (Typhoon, vegan) is in CAMS (Center for the Americas) room 1 and 2 — please email me by Tuesday Feb 7th if you are interested in joining us!
Date: Thursday, February 9
Place: Russell House
