Created and directed by visionary Karin Coonrod for four young actresses from her international theater collective Compagnia de’ Colombari, the New England premiere of “texts&beheadings/ElizabethR” (2015) deconstructs the letters, speeches, poems, and prayers of “The Virgin Queen” Elizabeth I of England. A breathless game of hide-and-seek with history, mystery, and the theater form inspired by James Joyce and Gertrude Stein, “texts&beheadings/ElizabethR” captures the rhetorical panache and ever-shifting essence of the icon. The performance will be followed by a discussion with the artists.
