Psoy Korolenko (Russia/US) [avant-bard & wandering scholar] presents “WHAT DOES IT MEAN?” – a multilingual folk-funk-punk cabaret in English, Yiddish, Russian, French, and some Portuguese. The “avant-bard” and ”wandering scholar” Psoy Korolenko presents his unique multilingual one-person folk-funk-punk cabaret.
Recent and early, translated and original, old and modern, serious and funny songs in English, Yiddish, Russian, French, and some Portuguese.Psoy Korolenko’s one-person cabaret-esque show balances folk, chanson and klezmer, free style poetry and intellectual comedy. On stage since 2000, he has released two books (one more in print) and more than 15 CD’s, solo or in collaboration with other musicians.
He is a member of the organizing committee for the music festival JetLAG in NY area, a guest of many klezmer music festivals, an ex-artist in residence at the Trinity College (Hartford), University of Michigan (Ann Arbor), Dickinson College (Carlisle, PA). An author of insightful and sophisticated Russian sung poetry, he is also known for his keen and explorative vision of the art of translation, ”tradaptation”, and what he calls Spell-Art (i.e. playing with foreignness, emphasizing linguistic distances, switching languages etc).
