Joseph Perna teaches Italian and Film at Sewane: The University of the South. His research explores vernacular modernism in Italy, with a special emphasis on cinema, photography, and magazines in the years surrounding the Second World War. His essays have appeared in The Italianist and World Film Location: Florence, and he’s currently at work on a book about passionate viewing in modern Italy. His favorite canto is Inferno-5.
