Transforming our Understanding of Violence: Restorative Justice, Music Therapy, & Beyond


panel facilitated by Circles & Ciphers featuring community organizers from North End Action Team, Boys & Girls Club, and Middletown Juvenile Detention Center. This event will engage with community-based alternatives to the prison industrial complex and will focus on how students can get involved locally.


open reception following the panel event where students and the Wesleyan community can connect with local organizations to figure out how to engage with Middletown’s efforts for prison abolition and community-based healing.

Circles & Ciphers is a Chicago based restorative justice organization led by young people of color who are prison-, court-, gang-, and DCFS- involved. Using Hip-Hop infused peacemaking circles, they empower participants to transform legacies of violence, incarceration, patriarchal masculinity, and disengagement.
