Wesleying was founded in 2006 by Xue Sun and Holly Wood, members of the class of 2008. Since, it has become a space for undergraduate students at Wesleyan to post about news, events, and student life on campus. Wesleying does not receive funding from the University, which gives us the freedom to be able to write about happenings at the school without any censorship. While the blog is often a lighthearted and comedic space for student journalists, we have also been able to use our platform to bring attention to serious events on campus, such as the live covering of the 2009 shooting at Red and Black Cafe, as well as a letter in 2020 from the Cross Country team exposing a toxic culture enforced by their coach on the team. We have been cited by the New York Times, and been the inspiration to several other blogs at other colleges. Wesleying has always been a blog by students and for other students, and will always continue to be.
