Wesleyan Women in Science First Meeting

WesWIS would like to invite you to participate in our opening meeting on Friday, October 5th. We’re meeting in 103 Albritton from 12:15-1:15. We’ll provide lunch and an opportunity to get involved in activities for this year.

Activities may include: trips to academic conferences, peer course advising, finals week study breaks, a graduate careers panel, and more.

Please join us to support the promotion of women in the sciences and to weigh in with your opinions and ideas. People of all majors and genders are welcome.

First Presidential Debate of 2012

As some of you may know, there’s a small event coming up in November called the Presidential Election. If you fancy flaunting your political know-how, then Amy Davis ’13 has something that may interest you:

Looking for a good fight? Come join the Roosevelt Institute, WesDems,
and Democracy Matters to watch the First Presidential Debate live in
PAC 001 9-10:30pm on Wednesday evening. Bring your friends–or better,
your enemies!–to catch the action and have a recap discussion of our
own.

Angel Investment and Venture Capital Info Session

Acquiring angel investment or venture capital is often the first goal for many emerging entrepreneurs. However, many startups pursue this type of investment before they are ready. We’ll talk about what angel investors and venture capitalists are looking for from start ups before they invest including

1: planning, documentation and proof of concept
2: criteria used to evaluate business plans
3: rates and pace of return that they ask for in return for their investment.
