48 Hour Magazine: Print Edition Has Arrived

Between November 11 and November 13, an intrepid group of students created a magazine over the course of 48 hours. The online edition is available here. Click here to download a free PDF or to backorder the issue. We are distributing the print copies today at lunchtime in Usdan, Olin, SciLi, and a few other places around campus. We expect them to go fast. Please take one copy only. Many thanks to everyone who made this project possible.

Middnight on Main

If Thanksgiving Break with the family left you looking for alternative ideas about where to celebrate the next round of holidays, consider this invitation from Jen Alexander ’88, Wesleyan alumnus and diehard Middletown resident:

Stay in town for Middnight on Main, Middletown’s first New Year’s Eve Festival.  Over 100 performers in four blocks of Main Street, starting at 3 pm on December 31st, plus rooftop fireworks at 6 pm, and a countdown to 2012 that features the Holy Trinity church bells and Kaoru Watanabe on Taiko drums.

Informational Meeting: 48 Hour Magazine Project

If you are intrigued by the prospect of helping to write, edit, design, and publish a magazine and a multimedia website over the course of 48 hours this coming weekend (November 11 – November 13), then come to our informational meeting tomorrow at 1:00 PM.

Read our earlier post about the project. Follow the event on facebook. If you can’t make the meeting—or if you have any questions, comments, or concerns—contact us via facebook or at 48hourmag at gmail dot com.

We’re seeking writers, photographers, artists, filmmakers, designers (both print and web), copy editors, and anyone else who thinks this is even remotely a good idea. Your efforts will define this project because we can only make it happen with a great team of contributors. You can spend anywhere from one to forty-eight hours with us, assisting with any or every step of the process. Experience is not necessary.

48 Hour Magazine Project

SUMBIT NOW!

Fetuses gestate for nine months, but next weekend we’re going to shove one out in just two days: we are going to write, edit, design, and publish a magazine over the course of forty-eight hours.

Pumpkins and Popsicles (and so can you)

From Alexandra Ellerbeck ’13:

Come carve pumpkins and eat popsicles in the Lo-Rise courtyard. Bring a carving knife, and we’ll supply the pumpkins and popsicles. The pumpkins and popsicles are free, but we’d appreciate it if you could bring a few dollars as a donation to the Green Street Arts Center. We’re inviting kids from Middletown as well, so make sure that you spread the word not only to friends in Lo-Rise but also to any kids you know in T-square.

Pine Problem on Pine Street

Power has finally been restored to most (but not all) of Middletown. Campus has faired fairly well. This house on Pine Street, you’ll notice, wasn’t so lucky. If you see people in CVS battling over cases of Poland Spring, have heart—there are some who’ve not had running water for a week.
