Opening Reception—“Converging to a Center”

wescfalogosquareFrom Randi Plake:

Photography has evolved dramatically since 1970, when Wesleyan’s Jane A. Seney Professor of Greek, Professor of Classical Studies and Environmental Studies Andrew Szegedy-Maszak started collecting. “Converging to a Center” highlights 35 photographs acquired in the last two decades, photographs that reveal the shift from the intimate scale of gelatin-silver prints to immersive large-scale color digital images. The internationalism of photography today is evident in works by Adou, Philip-Lorca DiCorcia, George Georgiuo, Richard Misrach, and Abelardo Morell. There will be a conversation in the gallery with Professor Andrew Szegedy-Maszak and Curator Clare Rogan at 5:30pm.

Date: Thursday, March 30th
Time: 5 PM
Place: Davison Art Center

EcoFacilitators Is Hiring! (and info session!)

captureFrom Emily Murphy ’18:

The Wesleyan Sustainability Office is seeking frosh and sophomores to serve as Eco Facilitators for the 2017-2018 school year! The EcoFacilitators are a group of about 15 students who work closely with freshman dorms to promote sustainable and environmentally-friendly lifestyles on campus within the context of global climate change and social inequality.

In Spring 2017, EFs will enroll in a semester-long student forum focused on strategies for encouraging sustainable behaviors. Throughout the fall and spring of the 2017-2018 school year, EFs will be paid to apply their ideas through these strategies in dorms, and work with RAs to account for unequal access to resources while promoting sustainable living. Working as an EcoFacilitator is a great opportunity to gain leadership skills and take part in building a more sustainable, equitable, and inclusive campus community.

Applications are due by 11:59 PM on Monday, November 21st and are on Wesleyan’s Office of Sustainability website. There will also be an info session on Monday Nov 14th in Usdan 108 at 12:15 pm. More information, including an FAQ is available at bit.ly/EFs2017. Please email ecofacilitators[at]wesleyan[dot]edu with any questions!

The showcase will include a self-defense tutorial, a Tai Chi form demonstration, a Kung Fu form demonstration, and a speech from Ji Myong about seeing the world for what it really is.

Come to our Friday showcase to see what we’re all about!
