Not enough auditions for you? Desperate Measures to the rescue.

From Ariel Lesnick ’14:

Do you enjoy making shit up?
Do you watch “Whose Line is it Anyway?” in those fabulous late-night ABC Family time-slots?
Do you mime out the majority of your actions to be ultra-specific (slash talk with your
hands a lot)?
Then have WE got the place for you!!

Come audition for Desperate Measures, Wesleyan’s short-form Improv comedy group!! Auditions will be held on Sunday from 3-4 pm and Tuesday from 9-10 pm in the “East Room” (which is in the Theatre Studios in the CFA). No experience is necessary, just come on down and I am sure, laughter will ensue!

There will probably be a silly hat. No promises though.

New York is like, sooo gay.

In case you missed it, New York recently legalized gay marriage, making it the largest state to do so thus far. The majority vote was only secured after many delays and dramatic changes of heart by several key senators. (Including Republican Roy McDonald, who famously declared to his critics, “Fuck it, I don’t care what you think. I’m trying to do the right thing.”) The New York City Pride Parade today was appropriately “off the chain,” as I heard one attendee describe it. With Governor Andrew Cuomo and openly gay Senator Tom Duane in attendance, crowds were pushing up against the barricades in the West Village and screaming for hours as all of the floats and marchers went by.

As a Wes student, a New Yorker, and a proud queer, I would like to say Congratulations, New York! After your weddings filled with lots of glitter, cake, and legal rights, I hope that you will continue to think beyond marriage and that the trend toward equality doesn’t stop here.

More pictures after the jump.

Procrastination Destination Du Jour: Cute Roulette

You know that project due yesterday that you would rather drink your own vomit than finish? This website is so much better than that. Especially if you are a cute animal junkie (whether openly or still living in the closet).

Cute Roulette. Just keep clicking “next cuteness” until all of your homework goes away. And then you can keep clicking, until you are 60 years old and wonder why you’re still in college but damn that ninja cat just gets you every time. It’s like Cute Overload/ZooBorns/Cheezburger, except consolidated and designed even more perfectly to suck your time away.

You might even be able to relate. The puppy below has definitely had enough of finals week, too.

Queer Prom Goes Intergalactic

From Slamming ’13, queer intern extraordinaire:

Queer Prom. This year’s theme is Queer Planet. Pretty awesome, right? Also, it’s FREE! Pretty fantastic, right?

Brought to you in part by the Queer Resource Center.

According to the ever-reliable ACB,

“queer prom is fucking fantastic. you do not need a date, you just need to dance. it is consistently one of the best parties of the year, no matter who you fuck.”

Moral of the story: Come shitty drunk, come sober, come in an alien costume, come from Mars, come with your friends, come with your friends with benefits, come gay, come dressed only in tin foil, come dressed as Mr. Sulu from Star Trek, come straight-but-not-narrow, come as Michael Warner, come as you are, just come. And dance it out, honey.

Date: TOMORROW, Saturday, May 7, 2011
Time: 10:30pm – 1:30 am
Place: Beckham Hall/Outer Space

The Om Collective in the Chapel Tonight

From Mike Rosen ’11:

Mike Rosen ’11 / Ryan Rodger ’11 / Cameron Awkward-Rich ’11 / Josh Smith ’11 / Sophie Sotsky ’11 / Jared Paul ’11 / Spencer Hattendorf ’12 / Sam Long ’12 / Nate Mondschein ’12 / Nick Petrie ’12 / Myles Potters ’12 / Dylan Bostick ’13 / Zach Goldberg ’13 / Morgan Hill ’14 / Mel Hsu ’13

are coming together for a one-time, collaborative performance that you’re not going to want to miss. It’s going to be a circus of music, dance, and poetic chaos curated specifically for the Memorial Chapel. This kind of art can’t be anthologized.

We can’t tell you if it’ll be fun because that might ruin the surprise, but we think you should probably come.

Check out the hour-long show for yourself, tonight in the chapel!

Time: 8:30 pm/doors open at 8:15 pm

Place: Memorial Chapel
