Be The Art Gallery Opening at Zilkha South Gallery

Imagine a place where magic happens. Where the miracle of human expression manifests itself in varying dimensions and perspectives onto four stark white gallery walls. Don’t worry, this place exists. And it starts existing tomorrow:

Olivia Grant ’14, Sydney Lowe ’13  and Yatta Zoker ’14 want you to come to the BE THE ART Gallery Opening Reception!

BE THE ART is an annual student-curated art exhibition committed to celebrating and raising awareness of underrepresented artists of color at Wesleyan.
Featured Artists include: Heran Abate ’13 , Dandara Catete ’15, Taylor Dauphin ’15, Raphael Diallo ’14, Mariama Eversley ’14, Adam Forbes ’13, Raphael Linden ’15, Sophia Hussain ’13, Christian Lalonde ’13, Sydney Lowe ’13, Mao Misaki ’15, Marina Reza ’13, Khari Slaughter ’13, Lisa Sy ’13, Ariana Todd ’13, Dat Vu ’15, Yiyang Wang ’15

Refreshments will be provided by Iguanas Ranas. Fxwrk (Coral Foxworth) will provide beats. Wes Alum Kamar Thomas ’12 will be speaking!

Be The Art is an art exhibition in Zilkha Gallery that showcases visual artwork created by students of color. The show goes up in February and we need your work as soon as possible! Don’t forget to bring your photos, paintings, drawings, sculptures, and videos back to school!

If you have found yourself well into winterbreak without giving a gift to your loved ones (and I mean, well after christmahanakwanza) then you my friend are in need of Here in Red Hook  by Studio Art Major Wes Alum Andy Vernon Jones ’05. Andy has taken beautifullll portraits of the Brooklyn neighborhood over the past 5 years after graduating from Wes.

Laura Lupton ’12 says to get your swerve on in Zilkha & SUBMIT NOW to supah cool creative art website Swerve(d). The gallery show in Zilkha is from Nov 7th-22nd.  They’re accepting hard copy submissions if ya’ll don’t want to/ don’t have a digital copy of your artwork!

Awesomely amazingly cool website dedicated to showcasing Wes creative efforts (even if you aren’t doing one of the artsy fartsy majors and ESPECIALLY if you are) :

SWERVE(D).org wants to share Wesleyan’s creative works. That means: 2D and 3D art, photography, sound, videos, poetry, prose, or anything else you want to submit.

It’s meant to allow open sharing of the community’s creativity, so that people can show what they’ve done and see what other people on campus are doing.

Benefit Concert with Tierney Sutton ’86

Green Street Arts Center invites you to celebrate the end of your finals next Friday with some smooth jazz and super famous three-time Grammy Nominee Wesleyan alumna Tierney Sutton. Yes. She is that important.

“Support Green Street Arts Center’s After School Arts & Science Program with renowned jazz vocalist and Wesleyan alumnus Tierney Sutton ’86. Sutton was an undergrad at Wesleyan when she first discovered jazz music and decided to become a performer. Since then, she has graced the stages of many prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Birdland, the Rainbow Room, and the Montreal Jazz Festival. Returning to where it all began, Sutton, joined by flutist Hubert Laws and guitarist Larry Koonse, will be performing at Crowell Concert Hall.”

Green Street Annual Senior Send-Off and Support Staff Appreciation Event

Come to Green Street Arts Center to celebrate,  say good-bye to seniors and see talented children play instruments!

You are cordially invited to our Annual Senior Send-Off and Support Staff Appreciation event on Monday May 9th!  We will hold our first Musical Mentoring Private Lesson Recital on Monday at 6:00 pm, to be followed at 6:30 by a very short presentation of acknowledgements, then great music, food and time to say farewell to our wonderful, wonderful seniors.
