From Sophie Breitbart ’16:

Do you ever go into Middletown or Hartford and wish you could do something to help those less fortunate than you? Would you like to help alleviate the stress and worry now being experienced by four hundred twenty thousand Connecticut residents because their food stamp benefits were cut as of November 1? Looking for an excuse to start celebrating the holidays? We’ve got you covered!

Come visit the Fast-a-thon table at Usdan to donate points to the Amazing Grace Food Pantry. We’ll be tabling for a week starting this Wednesday. Stop by between noon-1 and 6-7 pm or you can give through this link starting Wednesday. If you’re low on points, just consider skipping your next latte run so that the boy you tutor can enjoy a meal (nearly one in fiveConnecticut children qualify as food insecure.)Holidays = giving = donating points = let the Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/Saturnalia/Festivus music begin!

Date: Wednesday, November 20
Time: 12-1 p.m.
Place: Usdan
Cost: 5-50 points

Fast-A-Thon Volunteers Meeting

From Zainab Khan ’13:

Yes, it’s that time of the year again! The Fast-a-Thon is fast approaching and we are looking for volunteers to help organize the event. If you’re interested in volunteering, you must attend one (just one) of two volunteers meetings. The first one will be held Sunday, November 4th at 1pm in Usdan 110 and the second will be held Monday, November 5th at 4:15 pm in Usdan 110. Any questions, comments, or concerns should be directed to Zainab Khan at zkahn(at)wesleyan(dot)edu.

Chili and the Amazing Grace, this Saturday @ The Food Pantry!

Guys, I’m so tired, it took me several tries to enter my password to get on here. Actually, as long as we’re being honest with each other, I screw up my password (it’s “Francesca Moree ’14) all the time. I’m just too lazy to change it. If you also have an embarrassing and mundane story about yourself, feel free to send it to staff[mat]wesleying[mot]org to be published on Wesleying for all to see.

Uh, anyway.

Looking for a great opportunity to connect with local Middletown residents, support the Amazing Grace Food Pantry, and encourage healthy eating habits?

Well you’re in luck!

This SaturdayMarch 30 we will be hosting a cooking class at Amazing Grace from 1:15-2:15. You don’t need any experience, and even if you can’t cook, we would LOVE to have people just come by and hang out with us!

We’ll be making vegetarian chili completely from ingredients found at Amazing Grace, and at the end of the class, each Middletown resident in attendance will get to go home with a bag full of the ingredients and a copy of the recipe!

If you have any questions please email Lizzie Williams ’13 at ewilliams02&wesleyan&edu or Francesca Moree at fmoree&wesleyan&edu.

And although our chili won’t necessarily resemble this, we nonetheless request that you view this video for cooking inspiration:

Whoa. That was actually pretty damn impressive.

Date: March thirty-oneth

2010 Fast-A-Thon

Do you remember last year’s Fast-a-Thon?

1200 Wesleyan students, faculty, staff, and local residents participated to raise over $16,000 for the local food pantry. This year the Fast-a-Thon is going to be BIGGER and BETTER than ever, but we need your help!!!!!

Different ways to donate points:

  1. fill out a donation slip that can find in your mailbox
  2. donate at different tables set outside of Usdan marketplace, WesWings, and Summerfields
  3. go to: www.wesleyan.edu/ocs/fastathon.html

The idea behind the Fast-a-thon is to donate the points/meals that you would have eaten that day towards Amazing Grace Food Pantry. It is recommended to fast just to experience what Ramadan is like, but it is by no means required.

On the day of the event we will begin with a number of speakers to introduce the event and explain its significance. Then we will break our fast with dates and eat a delicious Indian feast from Haveli’s. If you get there early you will also receive a free t-shirt!

Sponsored by: IJL, MSA, SBC, ResLife, SALD, Chaplain’s office, Haveli, Bon Appetit, OCS

  • Date: Thursday, Sept. 30
  • Time: 5:45 PM – 7:30 PM
  • Place: Beckham Hall
