And the winner of the April Energy Fest is…

Nicolson 5, 5.5 and 6. Congratulations!!

Over the past two weeks, dorms have competed to reduce energy consumption and win awesome prizes. Nics 5, 5.5 and 6 dominated the ranking throughout the competition, and won with a formidable 159.2% energy reduction compared to its baseline. Overall, dorms conserved 26.6% more energy than during the baseline period. The final rankings are:

Energy Competition Ranking as of 4/12

Picking up where we left of last week, Nics 5-6 continue to dominate over the other dorms (namely: Fauver) in the April Energy Fest competition. “The Big Bing” Wu ’13 offers up a few tips with the usual rankings that may shake up the results when the whole thing ends later this week:

6 Tips for competitive energy conservation.

1. Turn your heaters off. Put storm windows down if you have the heat on.
2. Turn communal fridges to the lowest setting.
3. Unplug mini-fridges and use the communal fridge.
4. Turn computers off and unplug them when you are not using them.
5. Save energy while you study by working outside your dorm. Use printers in the libraries instead of in your dorm.
6. Take the stairs

Another (few) day(s), another update on the April Energy Fest from your magnanimous host, Bing Wu ’13. Nics 5-6 still rule with Fauver bringing up the rear, but there’s been some significant shuffling in between. Without further ado:

We’ve reached the end of the first week of the competition–only one more week to step up your game and reduce your consumption! Make sure that you not only work to reduce your own energy consumption but that you remind your hallmates to reduce their usage as well–you’ll all benefit from the win! A party with President Roth and free metal travel coffee mugs await you… if you beat out the formidable Nics 5-6 who are currently dominating!

Three days into April Energy Fest

Bing Wu ’13 brings a reminder about that little April Energy Fest thing you may have heard about, in the form of …data. Take it away:

Wesleyan’s Inter-dorm Energy Competition kicked off on April 1st (and lasts until April 14th) and below are the rankings thus far! This data was compiled by Physical Plant over the past three days and will be continually updated throughout the two week competition. The winners will be announced shortly after the last day of the competition and will result in cool prizes and an awesome party for the winning dorm on Tuesday, April 19th.

**This data controls for square footage of the dorms and the daily outside temperature. It also controls for specific dorm irregularities and inherent inefficiencies by comparing the percent reduction to a baseline figure of daily energy consumption for each dorm that was calculated during the weeks prior to the competition.
