From Gabe Gordon ’15:

Sign up to participate in THE PORTRAIT PROJECT! Sponsored by Art House.

Artists who participate in THE PORTRAIT PROJECT will be assigned the name of someone else who also signed up to be an artist. This person will be your subject and they will also be the artist of a portrait of another subject. Prior knowledge of or experience interacting with your subject is not required, and is in fact discouraged. Kinda like “Assassins” but with art…

The rules: Make a 1×1 foot portrait of your subject in any medium you chose (painting, drawing, photo, poetry, prose, printmaking, sculpture, etc.).

The project will culminate in a curated exhibition of our portraits that will take place in the Usdan display case around Thanksgiving through the end of the semester. And hopefully a published chapbook of all the pieces!

There is no requirement for who can sign up, just a commitment that you will complete your part of the project.

Sign up by OCTOBER 25th at Midnight!

Deadline: October 25th at midnight

Lust-Cats of the Gutters, Mannequin Pussy, and the Murdertones at Art House

Ethan Hill ’16 writes in with the following:

LUST-CATS OF THE GUTTERS are from Denver. They make toxic pop songs about escaping from monster dudes in cemeteries and why nothing cool happens on dates. They are on Burger Records. They will make you thrash.  They sound like this.

MANNEQUIN PUSSY are from Brooklyn. They make stoned-out fuzz punk that will make yours ears hurt so good. Their poppy melodies will be stuck in your head forever and ever and ever.  They sound like this.

THE MURDERTONES are Angus & Luke. You already like them.
They sound like the Beatles + teenage angst.

Date: Saturday, October 5
Time: 10:00 PM – 1:00 AM
Place: Art House (230 Washington Street)
Cost: Free

24 Hour Comic Day at Art House

Courtesy of Gabe Gordon ’15:

24-Hour Comics Day is an event held around the world which challenges writers and artists to create a full 24-page comic in 24 consecutive hours.
24 Hour Comics Day is the first Saturday of October. Come join Art House, a(n unofficial) host of this year’s comics marathon!

To create a complete 24 page comic book in 24 continuous hours. That means everything: Story, finished art, lettering, color (if applicable), paste-up, everything. Once pen hits paper, the clock starts ticking. 24 hours later, the pen lifts off the paper, never to descend again. Even proofreading has to occur in the 24 hour period. No sketches, designs, plot summaries or any other kind of direct preparation can precede the 24 hour period. Indirect preparation such as assembling tools, reference materials, food, music etc. is fine. Your pages can be any size, any material. Carve them in stone, print them with rubber stamps, draw them on your kitchen walls with a magic marker. Whatever you makes you happy. The 24 hours are continuous. You can take a nap, but the clock keeps ticking.

Please fill out this INCREDIBLY COMPLICATED form so we can get an idea of how many people are coming!

Date: Friday, October 4 – Saturday, October 5
Time: 8:00 pm
