Senator Chris Murphy Visits Wesleyan for Town Hall on Environmental Policy

“At the end of each week, ask yourself: ‘Have I done this much this week as I did during the week of January 20th?'” – Chris Murphy

Last Thursday, February 2, at midnight, I got an email saying that U.S. Senator from Connecticut Chris Murphy was coming to hold a meeting on environmental policy on the morning of Saturday, February 4 and that there weren’t that many seats left at this late stage. The town hall was sponsored by the College of the Environment and the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life. The senator, notable for his Twitter takedowns of Donald Trump, took many questions on everything from general political engagement in these fiery times, to specific measures on the preservation of federal lands, and the precarious nature of environmental data in the Trump administration. He also answered a question on whether he would be considering a Presidential bid for 2020. Read past the jump for more on the town hall:

Chris Murphy Seeks Interns, Needs Volunteers

An important message from Michael Linden ’15 on behalf on Representative Chris Murphy’s Senate campaign:

The Murphy campaign is seeking a few Wesleyan students to intern for their campaign from now until the November elections at their new Middletown headquarters. Recent polls have shown that Representative Chris Murphy is close to tied with his Republican opponent Linda McMahon, the founder of World Wrestling Entertainment, Inc. who is aiming to spend about $100 million on the race in order to essentially buy herself a Senate seat. This is a great opportunity to work on a race that could easily determine who controls the US Senate. If you are interested, contact me as soon as possible and fill out an online internship application here (resume needed). No previous campaign experience is necessary.

Also, the campaign is doing a phone bank at Democratic HQ on Thursday afternoon from 5 to 8PM and is seeking volunteers.  Anyone can come for as long as they can, and pizza will be provided. We will be leaving from the PAC entrance at 4:45.

What: internship / phone bank for Chris Murphy
Date: Now until November / Thursday 5 – 8PM (or for however long you can offer)
Place: Middletown Democratic HQ, 386 Main St, 2nd floor (atop New England Food Emporium in the Main Street Market)
Misc: free food
